Yes, Hastings Dental Center accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Our clinic at 2420 East Hastings Street in East Vancouver is listed on Sun Life’s CDCP Provider Search as accepting new patients, and we bill Sun Life directly for CDCP-covered care. With our no-gap CDCP billing, you are not charged the difference between the CDCP fee and our fee for eligible treatment: you pay only your co-payment, if you have one, and any treatment the plan does not cover.
Who qualifies for the CDCP?
The Government of Canada sets four conditions, and you must meet all of them:
- your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000;
- you do not have access to private dental insurance or coverage;
- you (and your spouse or common-law partner, if you have one) filed Canadian tax returns for the previous year;
- you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
You confirm your eligibility every year, and there is no fee to apply or renew. Apply and check your status on canada.ca.
What the CDCP covers at our clinic
- Diagnostic and preventive care: exams, x-rays and cleanings, fluoride and sealants.
- Basic services: fillings, root canal treatment and gum (periodontal) care.
- Major services: crowns, dentures and oral surgery such as extractions.
- Sedation or anesthesia when your treatment needs it.
Orthodontic treatment such as braces is not available under the CDCP at this time, according to the Government of Canada.
No-gap CDCP billing: what you pay
The CDCP pays set fees that are often lower than the BC fee guide, and at many clinics patients pay that difference. At Hastings Dental Center we absorb it: for eligible CDCP-covered treatment, the CDCP fee is the full fee. What you may still pay is your co-payment, set by your adjusted family net income: none under $70,000; 40% of the CDCP fee from $70,000 to $79,999; 60% from $80,000 to $89,999. Treatment the CDCP does not cover is billed as usual, and we offer direct billing and can help you check what the CDCP covers before your treatment, so you know the cost first. For anything the plan does not cover, ask us about payment plans and financing.

Does the CDCP cover braces?
